Green so vivid it hurt our eyes. The brilliant smell of fresh-cut grass filled the atmosphere. Prancing horses neighed as they danced. A huge sun was setting over an endless horizon of freshly-planted winter wheat. And what does this have to do with skiing? Nothing! But this tiny farming town in the middle of Oregon was the stage for Skiman’s inspirational annual epiphany.  Deb and I were camping in May in Central Eastern Oregon and found ourselves in the tiny farming town of Condon, in the middle of nowhere. On an evening walk along the edge of massive wheat fields we encountered a couple of old farmers. As with most small-town folks, they were very friendly and wanted to talk about us and their lives. The setting was incredibly beautiful and the chat was fascinating. At the end of our visit, one of the old guys came up to me and said: “I wanna tell ya something. I have a great plan that keeps me goin. I’m gonna live until I die!  And I’m gonna live to 100, unless I die first!”   I loved it!  How spectacularly simple and profound. Live until you die. Now THERE is a saying worthy of being a by-line to sell a ski tour to the Alps. I shook the man’s hand and as we walked away, I turned to Deb and said that I had just received this year’s theme for our Alps webpage.  If you love to ski, if you love the mountains, if you love to travel, then do it. Why Italy?  Well, we did Austria last year, so that left either France,  Italy or Switzerland. Switzerland is other-worldly expensive: done. France has great skiing, but their offers were at least $600 a person more than my friends in Italy proposed. Italy is our favorite country to visit. Courmayeur and Monte Rosa are two of our favorite ski regions in the world. Not a hard decision: Italy here we come.

Go big.  Join us for our 23rd Alps Fest… Italia 2018!
