“Tiny, overlooked Slovenia is one of Europe’s most unexpectedly charming destinations. At the intersection of the Slavic, German, and Italian worlds, Slovenia is an exciting mix of the best of each culture. Slovenia has stayed off the tourist track… Be warned: Everyone I’ve met who has visited Slovenia wishes they’d allotted more time for this delightful, underrated land.”
Our Austrian Ski Weeks Post-Trip is all set, and it has morphed and changed considerably from its original plan. We were going to offer a tour with a little bit of Slovenia and a lot of Croatia. But after researching and finding out more about Slovenia, it became
apparent to us that this tiny country has way too much to offer to be covered in a short, cursory, visit. Thus, we have decided to spend an entire week in this gem of a place. Like Croatia, it is a land that is full of history, diverse culture, and amazing natural wonders that are waiting to be experienced. We are changing the character of the trip as well as its destination. Unlike our marvelous Croatia tour, we are going to cover way less miles of travel. Slovenia is compact and all of its wonders are close by. So we will never travel more than 2.5
hours on any given day and we will be doing only three hotel stays, all from 2 to 3 days each. The pace will be slower than last year and there will be a lot of free time for you to explore on your own as you please. But at the same time, we will pack into this amazing package a boatload of INCLUDED tours and features. The travel to and from Slovenia after the Austrian ski weeks could not be easier or more convenient! At the end of the St. Anton ski week on March 25, 2017, we will return to Munich and fly on a 10:30 AM flight non-stop to Llubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. The flight back to Munich on April 1 will be as effortless, leaving at 5PM and going non-stop back to Munich, where we will stay the night before our return flights back to the U.S. The flight time of both flights is less than 1 hour… piece of cake!
Our Slovenian hotels are spectacular. All are top rated in their respective locales. They include breakfast and are perfectly located. All are Andrej (our friend and local guide) approved. We are excited to share them with you! What’s nice is that we will
have two or three nights in each hotel. The pace of this tour our will be chilled and relaxed. Slovenia is a tiny country. Our longest travel time on any day will be 2.5 hours. On this tour, you can relax and take a breath! You will have a lot of your own time at leisure to do as you please.
March 25: Arrive Lubljana by air from Munich, drive 30 minutes to Lake Bled for a 2 night stay.
March 25, 26: Lake Bled: 2 nights in a mountain gem. Lake Bled and the village of Bled are by any measure spectacular. They offer a hilltop castle with crazy views, an island with a castle in the middle of the lake, sweeping panoramas of the lake and the Julian Alps, and a 3.5 km lake promenade. Our hotel will be lakeside and you will have free time to explore as you please. On the second day, we will do a 13 km easy bike ride (bike rental and guide is INCLUDED in your tour, but if you chose not to ride, it is possible to ride our bus) to Lake Vohinj,
another wonderful Slovenian lake. There we will enjoy a lunch (not included) and a 1 hour scenic boat ride on the lake (included). Also during our stay at Lake Bled, we will do a guided 1 hour easy walk along paths and boardwalks up the Vintgar Gorge. A trail and amazing boardwalk above this rushing river will be something to remember!

The Caves: Postojna and Skocjan It so happens that two of the most beautiful caves in the world are in Slovenia and we are going to visit both on two different days. They are both easy to visit, with easy walking and train rides. The caves are all lite up and will be something to behold. The entrance fees to both caves are INCLUDED in your tour. We will visit one of the caves on our journey from Bled to Piran and the other on our journey from Piran to Ljubljana.

March 27,28: Port of Piran and Trieste, Italy on the Adriatic shore. Piran is Slovenia’s only port town, and it is pristine and user-friendly. Our hotel will be right on the sea. There is a quaint village to check out, paths to walk along the sea, and lots of restaurants on the plaza for food and people watching. On our second day in Piran, we will take a 45 minute drive to Treiste, Italy! Triste is now in Italy, but for centuries it was Austrian. The unique blend of the cultures makes for a unique town. Trieste is on the sea and full of history and exploration-worthy sites. We will offer a short walking tour of the town and you will have the afternoon to explore on your own. Our hotel is right on the sea and all rooms are sea view. Hotel: Hotel Piran site: http://www.hotel-piran.si/sl/

March 29, 30, 31: 3 nights in very cool capital city of Ljubljana. This capitol city of Slovenia is small, just like its country. It offers a gorgeous river and canals, unique architecture and cuisine, lots of pedestrian areas to explore on foot, and a central hill topped by an old castle. The cobbled center of Ljubljana offers great strolling, people watching, and shopping. You will have 3 nights and a lot of free time to explore on your own. We will include an easy 2 hour guided bike tour of the town as well. We will offer an optional 3 hour walking dinner tasting tour, where we will visit numerous restaurants with a guide and taste the cuisine of the country. Our hotel is located within walking distance of all the sights.
