Morningstar's Video-Stuff

Three Video Stooges

The infamous, often maligned, seldom understood, Three Video Stooges of Morningstar (Jim, Mark, Skiman). In the cinematographer's universe, they are indeed legends in their own minds. Working endless hours shooting video on and off the slopes is just the start. The task really begins in front of their computers, where the editing and special effects fun consume literally months. This brilliant team has yet to be nominated for an Oscar. Year after year they have been passed over by Hollywood. (What are they thinking?!) The bitterness and anger over this rejection compounds yearly and if an Oscar is not on their mantles next year, who knows what this unstable trio might resort to! Let's hope Hollywood comes to its senses and recognizes the genius of the Morningstar Video Stooges soon.

Jim Behra - Video StudJim Behra

in real life, is an Urgent Care doc in Tucson. But lurking inside is the heart of a total computer techie. Jim astounds us with his digital knowledge and is the geekasaurus of the trio. The latest software or device: Jim knows about it and probably has it. Before joining our video team, Jim was a normal, mild-mannered doc. After spending years under the influence of evil Dan and Mark, he has just about caught up with them on the insanity scale. His bare-chested impression of a Samurai warrior in this year's production bears witness to this sad degeneration. Jim generously gives hundreds of hours toward each year's movie. And to show just how crazy he has become: he does it for no pay!

Mark Chorebanian

is also a doctor in his real life. But unlike Jim, Mark has never been mild-mannered and normal. Dan and Mark: a match made in heavan! Chore was the originator of the Morningstar Video team. It was his vision and his fanatical desire to push the edge of the envelope that has driven us to new highs (or new lows according to some!) Mark is a video visionary and has come up with some truly amazing ideas. He is constantly inventing new possibilities for us to try. Mark is known the world-over as "Helmetcam Man". One of the greatest sources of joy in Mark's shallow existence is to get people from as many countries as possible to massacre the line "Helmetcam Man, you rock my socks off!" in tortured English variations. Naturally, he videotapes these attempts and tries to insert as many of them as possible into each year's movie. As with Jim, he insanely dedicates hundreds of hours of slavish work for no pay.

Tilo "WebZopp" Rust

Tilo at workFar away, over the ocean - in Germany - Dan has infected another geek. Sitting and typing tonns of HTML-code this slave still thinks he is the "Web-God" (running an advertisement company). But on the tracks he knows who rules... Tilo rides a Monoski at the German Mono-Ski.org.
He endlesly codes and re-codes Dans website and the videos. Thanks to his work, you can finally "see" what the others did.

One must ask:

What dark maniacal force does Skiman possess that drives busy men to toil endless hours for no pay? No one can say for sure, but who cares? What matters is: the Morningstar videos DO rock your socks off! Skiman can never thank these two guys enough. They have brought many thrills and laughs to hundreds of skiers over the years. Long live the Three Video Stooges

Technical Note

You may wonder how they are able to capture the ski action images . People ask how we get the bird's-eye-view action skiing sequences. This is made possible by the use of small, cigar-size lenses worn on our heads while skiing. These lenses send a signal to our camcorders, which happily reside in the dry comfort of our backpacks. Once the images are captured, they are edited and re-edited ad nauseum on our computers using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier Pro software.

Finally the files are re-coded to the new Adobe Flash-Video format that shows up in brilliant quality and without an external viewer.

There: our secret is out!

No Player needed?

You might wonder how you can watch the movie and what player (i.e. Quicktime, WIndows Media or Real Player) you might need.
