Whitewater Ski Resort
Nelson, British Columbia, Canada
February 22 – 27, 2017
5 nights four-star lake view rooms, lift passes, one day skiing at Red Mountain, air
We only have 3 rooms left for this tour. Ponder, decide, and move.
The Skiing: Whitewater is a spectacular powder stash that never has lift lines, usually has some of the most pow in Canada, and is a wonderful laid back resort: powder without the glitz. It has legendary powder snow and is considered one of the best places to get fresh tracks in all of North America. Another nice bonus: it has the BEST day lodge food of anywhere in Canada. The lady who runs it is a very creative chef and has published cook books of the magic she presents at her lodge at Whitewater. Skiman has been to White numerous times over the past 16 years and it has never disappointed. It is not a huge mountain with hundreds of
trails, but it offers great terrain with a lot of great ski lines to rip, without a lot of people around. I literally have not waited more than 30 seconds for a chair on the back side of the mountain, where all the best skiing is. Whitewater is a wonderful breath of fresh air for skiers who love the essence of what skiing should be: a time of enjoying a lovely mountain at your own pace, on your own terms, without hordes of other skiers pressing in on you. Perfect! Bonus ski day: 1 hour north of Whitewater is Red Mountain. We did our New Year’s trip there last year and loved it. With the addition of a chair 3 years ago that expanded Red by 40%, it has made it into Skiman’s top five North American resorts list. The place is massive and, as with Whitewater, it is uncrowded. No lift lines, great terrain for everyone, affordable… perfect! INCLUDED in the package will be a one day lift pass to Red Mountain. We will travel there on the third ski day of our tour. The same bus company that will provide our transportation to/from the airport will also cover this move for us.
The Town: Nelson is located on the edge of the biggest lake in Brisish Columbia. The setting is spectacular, the town is a very fun, active, apres-ski locale, and our hotel is my favorite one in Nelson. Located right on the lake, it is a short walk to all the amenities of downtown Nelson. We are offering only UPGRADED lake view rooms for our skiers. The property, Prestige Riverside Resort, is upscale and gorgeous on every level. It is truly a grand place. Our last tour to Nelson stayed in this resort and we did not receive a single complaint about anything. That is pretty good for a group of 55 folks! Do NOT confuse this property with the Prestige Inn, also in Nelson. There is no comparison in quality between these two properties. Ours is much nicer with all the amenities. It costs more than the Prestige Inn, but in our book, it is worth it.
*Single occupancy for the entire stay is an additional $319. If you would like, we can attempt to find you a same-sex roommate to save the upgrade. No guarantee, but we are usually able to accommodate. NOTE: We can offer a sister hotel a few blocks away for less cost. Ask us.
Getting to/ from the resort from our hotel in Nelson will be easy. It is only a 25 minute ride to the resort. We will either use the public shuttle or use a private move, whichever way works out to be the most economical. This is not included in the package price, but it will not break the bank.
For whatever reasons (unknown to mere mortals) the air to Spokane is very very affordable right now. Most Western skiers are avering 225.00 round trip fares and 370.00 from the East Coast. The best way to get air these days is just find the best price out there that works time-wise and buy it. Ask us for the time parameters before you buy and go hunting. It is easy and cheap right now. We have build in a guesstimate of $225 for the air in our package price. You get your air on your own, we take off $225 off the package cost. Easy and done.
Lift passes: There are 4 possible full ski days on this trip. We are including in the package a 2 day Senior senior pass at Whitewater and a one day pass for Red Mountain to be used on our day trip to Red on the third ski day. If you are less than 65 years old, the cost of the package is $37 more, as adult passes are more than Seniors.
Seniors over 75 ski free and can take off $118 off the package price. You will have the option of purchasing an extra 3rd Whitewater day pass for a discounted price at the time of final payment.
The ground transportation: Spokane airport is 2.5 hours from Nelson. Red Mountain is 1 hour from Nelson. We need transport to/from the Spokane airport and for the day trip to Red Mountain. We also need transport daily for the 30 minute ride to/from the hotel to the ski resort and for the day trip to Red Mountain, one hour away. We are going to charter a small bus for these moves. The cost of this transport is NOT included in the package price. Cost will be dependent on the final number of passengers traveling on the tour. A guesstimate of the vehicle cost is @$135.00 per person. But again: this is a guess and the final cost per person could vary up or down, determined at time of final payment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A current PASSPORT is required to enter Canada: You must have a passport that is valid and not expiring any time near the dates of this trip. If you don’t have one, you need to get one and it can easily be done in time for this trip.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Criminal records? Canada can be picky about checking every entrants past at their border entry points. Be advised: If you have any DUI convictions in your past or any other felony convictions (no matter how long ago it was) you can be denied entry into Canada and you can be forced to return to the States immediately. IF YOU FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY, we strongly recommend you contact a Canadian consulate to clear things up and to ascertain that you will be granted entry into Canada. We have had people sent back on several occasions in the past. It is definitely a major drag when this happens. You lose your holiday and all of your money. Don’t let this happen and do as directed above before committing to this trip.
Base trip cost and what is included: Whitewater Tour: $959* ** per person double occupancy. 5 nights double occupancy Prestige Lakeside Resort, Nelson. NO meals included. *Single occupancy for the entire stay is an additional $319. If you would like, we can attempt to find you a same-sex roommate to save the upgrade. No guarantee, but we are usually able to accommodate. NOTE: If the single upgrade is too much for you, we can offer a sister hotel a few blocks away for less cost. Ask us.
*Air to Spokane. $225 is built into the tour as air cost. Your price can vary up or down depending on your gateway city.
*Senior 3 day pass. Adults must ADD $37 to the package price. 75 AND OVER deduct $120 from package price.
Not included: charter bus cost to/from airport and to/from Whitewater Hotel to Whitewater Resort, daily transfers to/from hotel/resort, cost per person t.b.a. at time of final payment.
**Group minimum size requirements and possible resultant cost changes:

**IF number of lift pass purchasing participants falls below 20, then additional lift pass surcharges will apply as follows:
Senior +65 : +$10 Adults: +12 75+: no surcharge added, as your pass is free
Currency exchange note: If the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Canadian dollar moves against the dollar, this could result in an increase in the final cost of the trip. It is not anticipated and large moves usually do not happen quickly. But it is always a possibility with foreign trips, including this one.
